October 2009 - City of the Tribes (Final Part)
West Clare and Connemara National Park
County Clare has a rich history, it is one of the worst areas for evictions, where landlords turned thousands of families out and demolished their derisory cabins. Apart from that, it was also greatly affected during the great famine where there were mass starvation, disease and emigration in Ireland between 1845 and 1852.
This is how the the town look like:
The tour guide told us to alight the bus and asked us to walk a long stretch of road so we are able to see how the town look like.
These rocks are movable, it is used by the farmers to move their cattle around.
The stretch of road that I was suppose to walk
This used to the typical houses that has been restored where the farmers used to live in
I was told that a leprechaun use to stay here and that you would be find a pot of gold at the other side of the rainbow when you see a leprechaun.
*sorry for the poor quality it was too far away has to digital zoom*
This house used to be a setting of a Irish/American movie
*I have no idea what movie it was*
Went on the bus and here I was...
In the past, the Park lands were used for agriculture, mainly as grazing for cattle and sheep.
Today, these areas are easliy recognised by the old cultivation ridges and hollows. Several of the bogs in the Park were used extensively as fuel sources, and old turf banks, now disused, are commonly seen.
Apparently, the weather is not kind to me so I did not take alot of photos due to the drizzling rain that ruin my mood and these are the photos when I was on the nature walk...
After which, on the way back there was an AWESOME scenery that I took...
This totally salvage my dampen trip to the Connemara Park, I guess you have to agree with me =)
